The Property

Our cottage property is situated in the ‘département’ of Calvados – one of 5 counties or ‘départements’ which make up the beautiful region of Normandy.  The market town of Vire is about 5-10 minutes drive away.

The semi-detached cottage is in the peaceful village of Maisoncelles La Jourdan. The ground floor consists of a large comfortable lounge/dining area with log burning fire, satellite TV and video, an ample, fully equipped, modern kitchen with dining area and shower room and toilet.  There is also a washing machine in a small lobby by the kitchen and shower room and in the lounge one of the sofas is a double sofa bed which adds to the sleeping capacity in the accommodation.

An open wooden staircase leads off the lounge to the first floor where there are two bedrooms – one double bedded and the second with 3 single beds – and a fully fitted bathroom.

Outside, the pretty garden area has ample room for parking and outside eating with barbecue.

Within the small village, a very short walk away, there is a bakers and friendly bar/restaurant with a small grocery attached where basic provisions can be bought.

Each Friday morning there is a bus service into Vire for the weekly market.

Local Area

The Normandy area is steeped in war history and there are various interesting places to visit with beautiful countryside and attractive towns and villages – one of which is Maisoncelles La Jourdan.

Local shops and supermarkets are just a few minutes away in Vire.

In the immediate vicinity (about 15 minutes drive) there is a very picturesque area with a large lake (Lac Dathée) where activities such as fishing, sailing etc take place. Beside the lake there is an excellent 9 hole golf course with a pretty clubhouse, practice putting green and driving range – details can be provided.

In Vire itself there is a public swimming pool with outdoor facilities which are open when the weather is kind – details can be provided.

The nearest town on the coast is Granville which is approximately a one hour drive from the cottage, with other beaches and coastal towns, including St Malo, a little further afield.

Well known attractions such as Mont St Michel and the Bayeux tapestry are easily accessible for a day visit from the property.

The wonderful French capital of Paris is approximately 2 hours away by road but can also be reached by a very good train service direct from nearby Vire.

As can be found throughout most of France, there are numerous excellent local restaurants serving ‘plat du jour’ lunches and/or dinner.

More detailed information on the local area is available at the cottage for your reference, but we would be happy to try and answer any specific questions/queries.
